Players will be provided the opportunity to learn and play sand volleyball in an atmosphere that emphasizes fun along with a balance of individual skill development and working as a team. Age groups are from 12U through 18U and both boys and girls can participate. We will assess player’s interest and ability to create a challenging environment and help them reach their full potential.
How does Sand Volleyball work?
We operate just like our indoor volleyball club program except we train outside, in the sand courts at Tom Brown Park. Like indoor, our coaches are experienced, USAV certified (for beach) and promote the club’s goals of teaching players to be successful in a competitive and fun environment. Coaches will emphasize individual development, teamwork, court movement, footwork, court awareness, physical fitness and mental toughness.
Why Sand Volleyball?
Beach requires players to improve all areas of their game. With the beach format (two player teams and no bench) players get more touches, participate in all facets of the game, dramatically increase their volleyball IQ and increase their stamina and fitness through training and playing. Plus, what could be better than playing the sport you love, outside in the sun, without a coach breathing down your neck?
When is Beach season?
Training starts in February and the season runs through July or early August, depending on tournaments’ schedule (TBD). Training sessions will be two times a week plus one weekend day a month. Players can participate in both indoor and beach seasons either concurrently or consecutively. Drop in (single day participation) may be possible based on availability.
Beach tournaments (2 on 2) are one day events (some may require 1 night stay due to distance from Tallahassee) and are on either Saturday or Sunday, depending on host. Indoor club players will be eligible to play sanctioned sand events while playing for an indoor club. Our goal is for coaches to be present at 5 to 6 beach tournaments. One big difference from indoor is that tournaments are structured so players can participate in as many tournaments as they want either with the club or on their own. There is that and the fact that you and your family get to attend tournaments, mostly during the summer, relaxing outside at some of the nicest beaches around instead of a gym/convention center.
Should we attend the indoor tryouts?
If you are planning to play both indoor and sand, then yes, you must attend the indoor tryouts. If you are only intending to play sand volleyball this season then you do not need to participate in the indoor tryouts. We will be having our own tryouts/assessments for sand early next year!
